Singapore Custom recognised
companies that adopt Security
Management System

"Companies that have adopted and
implemented robust security measures will
benefit from increased visibility of goods in
the supply chain, reduction in pilferages and
greater efficiency in their supply chain
management.

In addition, companies certified under the
STP will be recognised as trusted partners
of Singapore Customs and enjoy the
following benefits:

Cargo less likely to be inspected;
Recognition as a low risk company i.e.
enhanced branding; and
Reduced inspection or expedited clearance
should certified status be also recognised by
overseas countries. "

What is STP?

STP means Secure Trade Partnership that
launched on 25 May 2007 by Singapore
Customs to encourage companies within
supply chain to adopt robust security
management system.

STP is open to all supply chain stakeholders
(importers, exporters, warehouse operators,
transporters, and terminal operators, etc).

STP is consistent with the World Customs
Organisation (WCO) SAFE Framework of
Standards to secure and facilitate global
trade, which was adopted in June 2005.
By implementing ISO28000 and carrying out the Security Risk Assessment (SRA), a company will be able;
• to provide understanding of critical control points for potential security risks and threats,
• to investigate threats – what or who can harm the site,
• to identify vulnerabilities – existing weaknesses,
• to analyze consequences of security risks and threat that affects the business continuity.
• to establish the operational control and emergency response plan in order to minimise the impact of the
potential security risk and threat.
• to earn the trust from the current and potential customers.

S. Korea to adopt ISO supply chain security standard

Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (ATS) has designated Korea Register (KR) as the body to
issue ISO 28000 certification to local companies that meet rigorous safety and control criteria. "South Korean
companies are already feeling the pinch of tightened security in the form of delayed shipments that translate
into increased transaction costs," said an official.

ATS pointed out that introducing ISO 28000 is doubly important because the U.S. is moving to check all
shipments entering its ports, while global organizations like the International Maritime Organization, the World
Customs Organization and the European Commission are all taking similar measures...
